Tucked away on Route 6A in Yarmouth you'll find the Edward Gorey House Museum, home to a wonderful tribute to the American author and illustrator of the same name. In fact, Gorey (1925-2000) lived in that very house until his death!

His witty and off-beat works include such memorable titles as The Gashlycrumb Tinies, The Doubtful Guest and The Wuggly Up.

A prolific writer and illustrator, Gorey was also a lover of animals and it is only fitting that in addition to preserving his legacy, the Edward Gorey House Museum works with animal welfare agencies to raise both funds and awareness through special events throughout the year.

The current exhibit, "Edward Gorey Creatures--Real and Imagined" running through New Year's 2010, is fun for kids and adults alike. It features a wide array of Gorey's animals from cats and bats to the imagined Figbash and Skrump.

Open most of the year, the Museum is closed January through mid April.

The Edward Gorey House Museum is located at 8 Strawberry Lane, Yarmouth Port, 508-362-3909, edwardgoreyhouse.org.
