Two Amazon parrots in need of a loving home...together

Brooke and Holly, happy in their own little world, but in need of a good home

The Brewster shelter has various birds available for adoption, including two Amazon parrots that are looking for a special home.

“Brooke” (left) and “Holly” (below) are Amazon parrots who have been with us for about a year,” says Brewster Shelter Manager Sandra Luppi. “They’re available for adoption but they’re difficult to place because, very simply, they prefer each others’ company to people.

Brooke and Holly just want to be together with minimal human interaction. Normally they’re in each other’s cage or on top of the cage grooming each other and things like that. That’s great because it’s less maintenance for people. On the other hand any prospective adopter needs to understand that they’re probably never going to be very demonstrative with people.

“They’re fairly expensive birds to feed, because they need a lot of good quality fruits and vegetables. But even more importantly, they need someone who can accept them for what they are in their own little world.”

Luppi concludes, “We’re still trying to find the right home for them. But in the meantime, they’re here together as happy as can be.”
