DOGS UP FOR ADOPTION: Attention all you big dog lovers!

W e are jammed! But that isn’t what concerns us this week. What worries us is that for the first time in a long time, we have a very sweet dog that desperately needs knee surgery which we have to delay because no one has come forward to foster care little Munchkin, our American bulldog mix, after her surgery. We have another dog, Harley, a senior citizen shepherd mix, visually challenged and loving, that needs insulin twice a day because of diabetes that we can’t place so we have to arrange to have someone come into the shelter to give at least one of those injections daily.

Vader is a handsome young shepherd who is eager and ready to learn.

Please remember, these dogs are not financial burdens to the fostering family as Friends of Falmouth Dogs will pay for the medical care. And giving insulin shots to a dog is not difficult—really! We just need safe temporary situations for these two dogs as most of the volunteers at the shelter have a dog so Munchkin and Harley won’t do as well in their homes. Also note that this isn’t because they are mean dogs. Quite the contrary—both are great, too great in fact, with other dogs and really need quieter situations. Isn’t there a home out there that can earn its wings? These dogs are so deserving of the medical care and caring environment we just can’t provide at the shelter.

And where are all our large dog lovers? We have had Merlin, the 6-year-old boxer mix looking for a home for months, as well as Mike, the 1-year-old Lab mix. These are dogs that simply need strong owners and people willing to help these dogs learn the ropes. We just accepted a new jet-black German shepherd, Vader, who is young and ready to learn. He is nervous because he hasn’t been allowed to feel secure anywhere yet, but he shows every indication that this will improve with a permanent home and some type of training regimen.

Finally, we have one adult pug, Major, that would be an easy fit into most homes. He is in foster care right now but can be seen by simply calling ahead to request a visit.

Thank you to our new volunteers who answered our plea this past week. We are always happy to add volunteers to any shift, especially when they even come dressed for rain, ready to help, the first day on the job! Our wish list includes a commercial grade vacuum, strong nylon or canvas six-foot leashes, and medium and large kongs. And we always need fragrance-free liquid laundry detergent.

Our “guests” are always changing. Stop in or call for an update. We are open from 10 AM to noon every day except Sunday when we are open from 1 to 3 PM. We are also open from 4 to 6 PM on Mondays and Thursdays. And visit us at www.friendsoffalmouthdogs.org.

To meet any of the dogs above, contact Friends of Falmouth Dogs at their Animal Control Center at 150 Blacksmith Shop Road in Falmouth, 508-548-7742.

Pet Quote

If a dog jumps in your lap, it is because he is fond of you; but if a cat does the same thing, it is because your lap is warmer.
